CityWars: Instructions

The game of CityWars is played by setting orders for each of the cities you own. Possible orders are how many armies should defend each of your cities, how many should attack your enemies, and which targets they should attack.

First, click on a city that you own. In the example below, the player (red) controls the British Isles, and Cardiff has been selected. There are currently two armies in Cardiff: 1 defending and 1 mobilized. This means one army will remain in Cardiff to defend it, and the other will move to another city of the player's choosing. To change the number of defending or mobilized armies, click on the white "D" and "M" icons.

Example 1: Cardiff Selected

To order an army to move to another city, click on in it with the RIGHT mouse button. Alternatively, click on the icon next to the city's name. Only nearby ("connected") cities can be chosen - in Cardiff's case, these are Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester and Dublin - and only one at a time. To indicate this order has been successful, an arrow is drawn on the map from Cardiff to the chosen city (Southampton) and a message will be shown beneath the list of connected cities. This order will be carried out at the end of the current turn.

Note that the number of armies that a city can support is limited by the number of farms. Thus in the above example, Cardiff may only have 6 armies at any given time. This information is also indicated by the 6 small boxes above Cardiff on the map - the two filled in red boxes indicate the two current armies. This rule may inhibit the movement of your armies through cities with few farms, so you need to consider this in planning your strategy.

New armies are generated in each city at a rate proportional to how many workshops a city has. If a city already has the maximum number of armies it can support (ie by its farms), then new armies will not be generated in that city.

To unselect a city, click on a part of the map with no city. The movement orders you have set all across your empire will be indicated by arrows. In the example below, the player is attempting to move his armies northwards through Italy in preparation for an attack.

Example 2: Army movement through Italy.

To order an attack, use the same rules as for movement: click on a city you own, then right-click on a neighbouring enemy city. The number of mobilized armies in that city will attack at the end of the turn. It is possible to attack the same enemy city from more than one of your cities, provided they are connected. If you defeat all the enemy armies defending the city, you will then control that city.

At the end of each turn, the News page is shown. This will inform you of any battles you have won or lost, cities captured, and new armies created. The game is won when one player has become so powerful that the others resign.
